"Great Location. Nice Staff. Very clean rooms. It's worth the recommenda-tion from Lonely Planet!" - Guest from Venice, FL
Lonely Planet Review
One of the city's best values, the San Remo dates to 1906 and is long on old-fashioned charm. Rooms are simply done, with mismatched turn-of-the-century furnishings, and all share bathrooms. Think reputable, vintage boarding house. Note: the least-expensive rooms have windows onto the corridor, not the outdoors.

Our Guests are Talking . . .
If you're young or thrifty, the San Remo Hotel may be your deliverance by the bay.
Built soon after the 1906 earthquake, the San Remo has 65 rooms, 64 of which share bathrooms down the hall. Most are tiny. No elevators. But North Beach is next door and the price is right. Rooms for two are typically $79-$139. Oh, and about the room that does have a private bath: It's called the Penthouse ($199-$249), because it's upstairs with its own terrace and a terrific view of Coit Tower.

“The location cannot be beat!”
We stayed here for two nights over Veterans Day weekend. The location cannot be beat. . . . We parked the car and walked or rode the public transportation to see the sights.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. It was great not having a TV, phone or clock in the room. I could truly relax for our entire stay. We had two rooms, one single and one double. The double room was small with both beds taking up most of the space, but the single bed room was cozy.
I was a little concerned about the shared bath facilities prior to arriving, but that concern was baseless. There was no problem at all...I did not have to wait at any time to use the facilities. I will definitely stay here for my future visits to San Francisco.

“ The staff was always helpful and kind. ”
I stayed here for three nights. One of the best and most unique hotel experiences I've had. Beautiful of-the-era place that is very well-kept and inviting. . .
The staff was always helpful and kind. Free coffee and liquorice. Great jazz coming from the open windows of the italian place downstairs. Though the bathrooms and showers are shared, availability was never an issue.
“ The San Remo has a vibe all it's own. ”
I stayed at the San Remo for 4 nights. The location is great and you can't beat the value! . .
It is within walking distance to the Warf and the Powell & Mason cable car line. Just a bit further away but still a very walkable distance are Pier 39 and Ghirardelli Square. The San Remo has a vibe all it's own. It's very inviting and was immaculately clean!
“This place is great!”
Very helpful & friendly staff. I love all the nooks and crannies of this place. So much character, . .
the Penthouse is beyond comprehension, it's so pretty and wonderful. North Beach is just the greatest neighborhood!
